Software professionals all over the world risk reinventing the wheel when they attempt to "roll their own" web software. The OpenACS, an open sourced web platform based upon AOLserver (the web server used by AOL) and PostgreSQL (the most full featured open source database), is one of the most common tools used to rapidly deploy complex web services. Tristan Cohen is a GeekCorps volunteer working with the UITE to promote Open Source Software development in Armenia (check out www.opensourcearmenia.com soon to find out more). He used to work for arsDigita and helped to develop Site59.com, an online travel site recently acquired by travelocity.com, and on the knowledge management system used by Siemens corporation.
